Another evening on the bench at Manchester United has put “the final nail in the coffin” for Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford, says Roy Keane.
The Red Devils’ club captain was included in Jose Mourinho’s matchday squad for a Europa League clash with Anderlecht on Thursday.
He was, however, to see no minutes as Anthony Martial was thrown on in place of Zlatan Ibrahimovic once the talismanic Swede picked up an injury.
With Rooney now seemingly little more than a squad player, United legend Keane expects him to move on at the end of the season.
He told ITV: "In terms of the bigger picture I’d have thought that’s the end of Wayne at Manchester United.
"He will obviously contribute until the end of the season because of injuries.

"But he must be fuming not to be brought on. I think that’s the final nail in the coffin for him,
definitely.
"Leading scorer at the club, I’d expect him to be fuming, if he’s not fuming then he’s obviously lost the eye of the tiger. He must be like a mad man tonight, he must be."
Rooney has not seen any competitive action since April 1, in a 0-0 draw with West Brom.
He has made 31 appearances across all competitions, but only nine of those outings have been Premier League starts.
The 31-year-old moved to play down talk of a move to the Chinese Super League during the January transfer window, but speculation continues to suggest that a 13-year spell at Old Trafford is coming to a close.
