The Ligue 1 leaders are under no obligation to sell their leading stars this summer, although "a couple" will be allowed to move on
Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has said that the club will not sell teenage prodigy Kylian Mbappe.Reports have circulated that Manchester United had an €85 million bid for the young attacker rejected by the Ligue 1 leaders, who are said to want upwards of €110m for the 18-year-old France international.
Vasilyev, however, has rejected the notion that the forward could be sold.
“Mbappe has no price,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “He is like a son.
“We are proud that he is already at this level with our jersey. We would like him to stay and I think he also wants that.”
Indeed, Vasilyev is optimistic that Monaco will be able to retain much of the squad that has reached the Champions League semi-final, although he did admit that there will be changes. These will not, however, be imposed on the club.
“A couple of players will be sold, but we do not have to do it. We have never prevented anyone from going. But the player must ask us and a right offer is required,” he emphasized.
As well as a European tie against Juventus to look forward to, the Stade Louis II outfit
are closing in on the league title, with only six points required from their last four games to wrest the crown away from Paris Saint-Germain.Mbappe has starred for them since Christmas, having become an essential member of their starting XI owing to form that has seen him net 14 times in as many starts, including 11 in his last 10 outings.
Meanwhile, he approaches Juventus aiming to score in his fifth successive Champions League knockout tie, having previously played only 25 minutes of football at that level.
